Cosmos, the goddess of harmony. Chaos, the god of discord. Reigning from distant realms, the two gods had gathered warriors from all lands to lead them in savage war. Cosmos and Chaos were of equal strength. It was believed that the conflict would last forever.
But…
Or so the legends say about the creation of the world of Dissidia. From the Void came the three Gods: Chaos, God of Discord; Cosmos, Goddess of Harmony and the God of Balance, Shinryuu, the Divine Dragon. It is said that Cosmos and Chaos once were balanced, and sought not to fight or destroy one another; why this changed, no one knows. But in order to maintain the Balance in the face of the God's warring on one another, Shinryuu took the God of Discord and Goddess of Harmony and brought them through the Void, to a place where they could war with one another, without destroying the delicate Balance that Shinryuu kept in the other worlds that the Gods had created.
In the beginning, Dissidia was simply a battleground for the determination of the fate of all worlds: discord's goal to purge all of existence, and harmony's goal to protect order and the sanctity of life. And from other places beyond the Void, the Gods drew in beings that they had fostered: warriors for each God, who sought the power of the Crystals that the Gods had set down in their world, that sustained their world. And here, in this new world — which existed solely as shards of the worlds the God's had previously created — the War raged.
Legends, incomplete and nigh-incomprehensible, tell of the deaths of the Gods — and each time, in order to maintain the Balance, Shinryuu would revive the fallen God — and Dissidia would again be the battleground of the War of the Gods. Until one such War, when the cycle itself was broken… and Dissidia was left to grow into it's own world, the legendary influence of the Gods' other creations throughout the universe breathing life into the world, creating a Crystal to sustain it, and allowing it to become more than a simple battleground. And so the world of Dissidia came to be what it is today: a beautiful jewel, of lush forests and jungles, snowcapped peaks and arid desert, with it's own place beyond the Void. The world is not all at peace, however; throughout Dissidia's history, Fiends, the monstrous servants of Chaos, have stalked the land, as well as Tribesmen who server Chaos willingtly, battling the Tribes and seeking to destabilize the world so that Chaos may overthrow it and extinguish all that harmony supports..
Dissidia, as a world, has grown much as any other world around the Void has, with hundreds of thousands of years of non-recorded history and only nearly a thousand years of recorded history. Legends, fragments of tales and speculation is all that can be gleaned from study of ruins and ancient, near-indecipherable texts that remain from before the beginning of recorded history. People on Dissidia refer to this as the Lost Ages (LA), while the recorded history of the past millennium or so is split into two ages (which are explained below in the timeline), called the Dawn Age (DA) and the New War Age (NWA).
The timeline of Dissidia: Final Fantasy MUSH picks up in the year NWA #, after the direct influence of Chaos and Cosmos has begun to be felt in the world at large. Significant events of the three ages will be defined in the timeline below; please note that the Lost Age information is IC extrapolation and exposition based on legends, texts and carvings found throughout the world.
| Lost Age (LA) | ||
|---|---|---|
| The Lost Age, abbreviated LA, is the time of Dissidia's existence before the recording of modern history began. The Lost Age is characterized by legends of previous God Wars, legendary Fiends such as the Ultima Weapon and King Behemoth, and exploits of legendary Tribesmen such as Athir the Water's White Light and Cymrych Hugh the Earth's Iron Will. Detailed in the timeline for the lost age is a 'relative' timeline, leading to 0 LA and the beginning of true recorded history. The legends of the LA will be things that staff will be using for plots in-game, as well as things that players can talk to staff about for running PrPs involving these NPC Tribesmen and Fiends, places and objects of historic significance throughout Dissidia. | ||
| ?? LA | The God War ends, with both Gods slain. The world of Dissidia begins it's growth through the influence of the foreign Crystals: the Shard of the Elements, the Wild Rose Blossom, the Stone of Elements Balance, the Facet of Light and Darkness, the Gem of Void Sealing, the Soul of Magic, the Materia of Life, the Guardian Force, the Life of Twin Worlds, and the Sphere of Sin's Memory. The Crystal of Harmonic Dissonance is created, forming the life force of Dissidia. | |
| ?? LA | The influence of the Gods is felt, as people are created by the Crystal of Harmonic Dissonance from the four Elements, creating the Tribes: the hearty and stout Earth Tribe, the hot-blooded and spirited Fire Tribe, the flighty and wise Wind Tribe and the gentle and mysterious Water Tribe. Conversely, Chaos' remains and powers throughout the world form the Darkwells, bubbling cesspools of Shadow energy; this and combinations of Elemental energy create the first Fiends. | |
| ?? LA | The greatest of the fiends rises from the Darkwells, the legendary beasts the Ultima Weapon, King Behemoth, and others. The Tribes seek help from the Crystal to protect themselves, and the knowledge of magic and inner strength flows into them; the first Classes are formed in the world through this mystic intervention. The Eidolons are also created, and the knowledge of how to summon them from beyond the Void is taught. | |
| 5,000 LA | The most powerful of the Magus Fiends, Deunomion, wreaks havoc through the center of the main continent, bringing many Fiends and Tribesmen under his control, and marching to conquer. Cymrych Hugh of the Earth Tribe, a lone Knight, leads an army consisting of many Tribesmen of a variety of classes. Cymrych uses his powerful sword, rumored to be forged from a fallen star, Claimh Solais, to lay low Deunomion; hailed as a hero, Cymrych Hugh founs the kingdom of Annwyn. | |
| Dawn Age (DA) | ||
|---|---|---|
| The Dawn Age, abbreviated DA, is the time in Dissidia's history where Tribesmen recorded the important events of history, whether this be through the use of new technologies, written records and many other methods. The DA will list the founding of major kingdoms, major events in battles between Fiends and the Tribesmen, advancements and inventions of technology and magic, within the past thousand years. The DA is considered common knowledge for Tribesmen and Fiends of intelligence on Dissidia, as it is history that is taught to most children, especially those entering the Academia. |
| New War Age (NWA) | ||
|---|---|---|
| The New War Age, abbreviated NWA, begins with the first direct influence by Chaos, and the counter-action by Cosmos in the world of Dissidia since before recorded history, with the formation of the Chaos Legion and the Order of Harmony. This portion of the timeline contains events that are detailed for Player Characters to write into their backgrounds, such as recent conflicts between the Legion and the Order, technological advancements and the rise and fall of kingdoms and heroes. |
